The story behind Jaar

Made with purpose, carried with pride.

Founder - Jas Sarah Arthur

Jaar began with a love of distinctive bags and a belief that personal style should never come at the expense of the planet. This is my story, my creative practice and my invitation to carry something with meaning.

Why recycled and upcycled matters

Reusing what already exists gives materials a new life and keeps beautiful resources in circulation for longer. I am doing this to make thoughtful, expressive pieces that celebrate creativity over waste.

Meet the maker

Hello, I'm Jaar

Jaar is an independent bag brand, handcrafted with care in Bristol, UK. Every piece is made slowly, thoughtfully and with a lot of joy.
My mission is to change the way we look at waste and explore a new narrative for the fashion industry. I look at waste material as potential. Fashion is a form of expression. Using waste material in fashion is a way to express the reality of the world we live in.
I source my materials from a few different places, cameron balloons being my main source for hot air balloon offcuts. i often go to a Bristol scrapstore for inspiration/ materials. All of my other materials are rPet/econyl (recycled plastic). I have spent a lot of time finding these resources, some of them dating back to when i was in university about 6-7 years ago.
